Albion women’s head coach John Donoghue was pleased with the performance of his side, despite the narrow defeat to Coventry.

The Seagulls were beaten 1-0 by the Sky Blues at Withdean, but Donoghue believes his team improved considerably from last week’s display against Keynsham. He told seagulls.co.uk, “We put in a really positive performance; everything that we weren't doing last week we did this week.
“We showed a real mental focus and had a collective commitment from the group. I’d have liked to see us have more opportunities to score today, but we made it difficult against a team that beat Gillingham last week.

“We pushed up as a unit and put lots of pressure on them, allowing us to win the ball back higher up the pitch and ensure our wide players could get beyond their defence.”Donoghue blamed a lack of concentration for losing the match, but feels his side can take confidence from the display going into the County Cup final against Chichester on Thursday before next week’s FA Cup tie with Coventry.
He added, “The result was harsh, but we lost the game due to a lapse in concentration - that was the only time they got beyond us.
“The rest of time they only managed to produce half-chances and nothing that was overly-concerning.
“This should prove to the players that we can beat them if we go into next week’s match with the same brave approach.
“If we work as hard against Chichester on Thursday then we can win the cup final as well. There are no excuses now, because they’ve put in a performance like that today and know what it takes to be successful.”
