Andrew Crofts settled the most recent meeting between Reading and Albion when his first-half strike knocked the Royals out of the FA Cup back in January.
However the Berkshire side’s only other visit proved pivotal for them as Ian Harte’s deflected free-kick set them on their way to three points and promotion to the Premier League back in April 2012.
That meeting was the first time Reading had visited the home of the Seagulls since 2005, where once again they were the victors in a comfortable 2-0 win thanks to goals from Glen Little and Dave Kitson.

In fact, Reading’s last away league defeat to Albion was back in 2002 when Peter Taylor’s Brighton swatted aside their Division Two title rivals 3-1 at Withdean, with goals from Bobby Zamora, Steve Melton and Junior Lewis. Jamie Cureton struck an injury-time consolation but a rampant Albion had already laid down a marker and eventually went on to be crowned champions.
The Seagulls’ previous league win at home to Reading was back in 1977 in a 2-0 victory, and following this loss the Royals have only been defeated once [in the aforementioned 2002 clash] in eight league visits. And, five of these victories came in the form of a 1-0 scoreline.

A couple of the more stand-out results from the fixture would be the incredible 8-3 win for Albion back in 1957 and there was also a 5-3 victory in February 1933 that was once again won by the Seagulls.
The first ever meeting on Brighton territory was back in 1920 when the two teams played out a 2-2 draw and Reading would only leave the south coast victorious twice between 1920 and 1958 in 25 games; a 1-0 win in 1925 and a 4-1 victory in 1946.
All previous encounters in this article only relate to matches played as home games for Albion.
