Gordon Greer hopes to win his third cap for Scotland tomorrow
Albion captain Gordon Greer is relishing the prospect of tackling one of the top strikers in the world.
Greer’s chances of winning his third cap for Scotland against Poland tomorrow night have increased with the withdrawal of rival centre-half Grant Hanley from Blackburn Rovers due to a calf injury.
Greer, capped against the USA and Norway in November, could be marking Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski in the friendly in Warsaw.
The Seagulls’ skipper told The Argus: “It would be great to face him. As a player you want to test yourself against the best and he’s one of the top strikers in the world at the moment. It would be fantastic to play. I always watch Champions League games and he’s a fantastic player.”
Greer is competing with Norwich’s Brighton-born stopper Russell Martin and Christophe Berra from fellow Championship play-off challengers Ipswich Town in the dress rehearsal for Scotland’s Euro 2016 qualifying clashes with Poland.
Glaswegian Greer, 33, said: “I’m delighted. It’s great to be a part of the squad. Hopefully I can get some game time. It’s a great experience even though I’m one of the older players to go away and possibly play against the likes of Poland. It’s a great honour for me to play for Scotland.”
