Owen Garvan is set for his Millwall debut against Albion today.
And his arrival on loan from Crystal Palace could help Ian Holloway revert to the formation he often used at Selhurst Park last term.
Garvan has signed for the rest of the season and, despite a lack of recent action, will go straight into the side.
The Lions have operated in a 4-3-3 set-up but Garvan thrives in a position behind the front man.
His arrival will make it easier for Holloway to go 4-2-3-1 with either Garvan or Ed Upson playing behind the front man.
Whichever of the two is not in that role could drop in alongside Shaun Williams in the engine room.
Garvan told millwallfc.co.uk: “I’ve played at The Den with Crystal Palace so I know how big a factor our home fans can be.
“We've got Brighton on Saturday and it's important we start on the front foot."
Steve Morison has been starting up front for Millwall but his form has dipped of late.
That could pave the way for former Albion loan target Simeon Jackson to lead the attack.
A change of formation would also allow Martyn Woolford to operate wide on the left.
Jermaine Easter and DJ Campbell are possibles on the right of the attacking trio.
Goalkeeper David Forde is expected to start after recovering from a dislocated finger.
