Adam Virgo heads home in a 1-0 win at The Den

Adam El-Abd and Ashley Barnes provided the goals in a 2-1 win last time the Seagulls were in Bermondsey, while there had been consecutive 1-1 draws in the two previous seasons.
Adam Virgo fired Albion to a 1-0 win in 2009 and, in fact, fans have to go back to 2007 for the last time the Seagulls suffered defeat at The Den in a 3-0 Boxing Day loss thanks to Gary Alexander’s hat-trick.

Virgo celebrates heading home at The Den
In 2006 the Seagulls twice faced Millwall within the space of three months, and on both occasions saw themselves down to ten men within the first half.
In the November Football League Trophy clash, Guy Butters saw red on 21 minutes and Paul Robinson put the hosts ahead, but Jake Robinson’s 88th minute equaliser forced penalties which the Seagulls won 3-2 in a dramatic encounter.
Earlier that season it was Richard Carpenter who saw red in the first game after Mark McGhee had been sacked by Albion. But, despite no manager and being down to ten men, Marvin Elliott’s late own goal gave the Seagulls a 1-0 win.
In the previous season but still in 2006, Albion claimed another away win as Paul Reid and Paul McShane’s two goals in the first 11 minutes produced a 2-0 win, but McGhee’s side would still suffer relegation from the Championship later that month.

McShane heads home against the Lions in 2006's 2-0 win
Arguably the most famous and meaningful meeting between the two sides came in the play-off semi-finals back in 1991. Albion carried a lead of 4-1 into the second leg but didn’t rest on their laurels as Brighton secured a 2-1 win and a 6-2 aggregate victory overall.
The first ever contest between the two at the former Den was way back in 1921 and was another successful trip for the Seagulls who won 1-0, but it would be another 14 visits and 20 years before the blue-and-white stripes were to succeed on the Lions’ territory again.
And during those two decades the Lions devoured the Seagulls on more than one occasion with a 6-0, 6-2 and 5-1 victory to their names, but in 1951 Brighton ended the winless streak in Bermondsey with a 3-0 triumph.
