You have probably read in the local news that Arundel FC are experiencing very difficult financial problems at the moment due to the severe flooding of the Mill Road pitch. Some of you may have been to the ground, often described as one of the most picturesque grounds in the country, with the Castle as a backdrop and the historic town a short walk away. The drainage has been vastly improved over the past few years, assisted by some pumping out when necessary. The problem is that the surrounding meadows are so water logged and the Arun already full to capacity causing immense pressure on the river banks it is just not able to take any additional water away. The problems were recently covered in an ITV interview: http://www.itv.com/news/meridian/st...ball-club-under-threat-after-recent-flooding/

The Club has a target of raising £25k for next season, in part to cover the cost of renewing the playing surface due to the existing grass being contaminated by the ingress of salt water. In addition to this the bar area and other buildings have all suffered some internal flooding. In short all this damage is going to cost a lot of money to put right. Since Christmas the damage caused by the flooding has meant they have had no income coming in due solely to not being able to make use of any of the aforementioned facilities.

The Club is doing all it can to drum up support from local companies and individuals, either by way of a small donation, supply of raw materials or some free labour. Hopefully the Albion are sending the development squad for a pre-season fixture in the summer too, so that's a start. If you know of anyone in the area who would be willing to help it would be great if you could flag this to them. Either drop me a message or the Club Secretary Billy Maynard, william.m@btinternet.com for more info on how to help.
