[h=3]'Flukey' goal that put skids under Seagulls[/h]11:00am Tuesday 25th February 2014 in Albion By Brian Owen
Hull take the lead last night
Hull goalscorer Curtis Davies admits he scored a “flukey” goal to send Albion on the way to FA Cup defeat.
But he was delighted to survive a nervy finale and secure a 2-1 fifth round replay win over the Seagulls.
The Tigers’ defender saw his looping header drift gently away from goalkeeper Peter Brezovan and drop over both Jake Forster-Caskey and David Meyler on the bench for the opening goal.
It was a change of luck after he powered a rather better header against the crossbar in the first meeting at the Amex last week.
Davies, who was linked with a move to Albion last year, said: “To get the two goals, however flukey the first one was, it was good to take that into half-time.
“We knew we had to come out in the second half and give it a good go although I think we started sloppily.
“Once they got the goal it was a little bit of a nervy last 20 minutes but we did enough and saw the game out."
