They would appear to be struggling to decide if the roles are temporary or permanent in that ad.

In the past I have used Office Angels for both permanent and temporary staff - they have been able to supply emergency short term positions very quickly - something they would be unable to do without potential recruits' details on file.

The worst I've seen was a city agency advertising jobs great looking jobs at a large Bank. I had a phone conversation with them where, seemingly innocently, he asked what team I worked in, then said, "Oh, does Joe Bloggs* still run that team?", "No, its Fred Smith*" says I. 5 minutes after I had hung up Fred Smith*, my boss, had a phone call from the same agency saying that they knew his staff were unhappy and planning to leave and he should consider using their agency to replace them!

He walks out of his office and just said out loud to everyone, "who is using SuchAndSuch Agency?" Obviously I kept as quite as everyone else, but called them back later and explained how I thought each and every person in the office was a c*nt!

* names changed to protect the ar5e I used to work for!

They love doing that kind of thing, I've learnt never to pass across any information about my company or the personnel within it. The agents that get me are the ones who try and get hold of you through your company switchboard, how on EARTH do they think you're going to react? They don't seem to understand the meaning of "I'm not looking for a job at the moment" and continue to try and squeeze information out of you without taking the hint.

It seems that for every good recruitment agent (and there are some really good ones), there are about 20 utter NOBS.

It sounds like when estate agents put notes through your door saying that they need houses in your road to sell to waiting buyers.

Ah yes. Like the ads in their windows ala: "Mr and Mrs M are cash buyers up to £300'000 and are desperately seeking a property in such & such road" - "Many similar buyers are waiting"

Estate Agents have always had a language of their own. Useful for the bubble they live in.......

I'm an IT contract project manager currently seeking my next role. I get loads of email alerts from the likes of JobServe, CW Jobs, IT Jobs Board, JobSite, Monster, Executives on the web, etc. I apply only when I think my skills and experience are a good match and I follow this up with a phone call to the named agent within 24-48 hours. Most of the time it's impossible to get through on the phone, a colleague will answer and say either a) they're already on the phone, b) not at their desk, or c) any excuse not to be available to talk to.

As a candidate, I'm their eventual bread-winner, but the service most provide its utterly diabolical. Hugely frustrating.

Utter shit and what's with some of the jobs posted refusing to mention Salaries. Also none of the agents want to discuss much by email . Always phoning which when in employment and just sounding out opportunities isn't ideal .

Finally , the service most offer is shambolic . Often forgetting to call back and generally poor customer service .

Think the industry is full of spotty kids on shit basics and being whipped to get sales . Problem is half them don't know arse from elbow and some of the skills they assume you can do because your cv is within a certain field is laughable .

I do know a lot of jobs posted online are rogue positions or re generated old positions to tempt people to get on their data base . I even came across one job agency working out of India for uk jobs . I spent a good couple hours trying to get to get some answers to something and gave up in the end .

Certainly these up starts often add to the stress of moving jobs . Dread to think what it's like to have to rely on them if unemployed .

I have on my CV that I am a "Certified SAS Programmer" - a fairly basic qualification in quite a specialist programming language - but I am waiting for the day when one of these spotty d*cks just does a word-search and contacts be about Mercenary work because of my "special forces" background! (I will go to the interview!)

These recruiter arguments are nowhere near as fun to read as there were when Bhaexpress was still with us :(

Had some woeful experiences with them myself, current place refuses to use them for anything at all due to finding similar problems but from the hirers side - internal HR manager scours the main CV DB on Monster etc (which is how I got a call from them) and other positions are advertised on air; bit of an advantage a broadcaster has.
