Craig Maskell is mobbed after scoring the vital winner against Wigan in 1997

Wigan Athletic are not a side Albion have often come head-to-head with.
Their last visit to Sussex was back in 2005 when a rampant Latics side stormed into a 4-0 lead after just 34 minutes thanks to goals from Jimmy Bullard, Lee McCulloch, Gary Teale and Jason Roberts.
Adam Virgo and Dean Hammond reduced the deficit but it was the visitors who came away with a 4-2 victory; the Latics’ solitary triumph at the home of the Albion to date.
Bobby Zamora and Lee Steele were on target as the Seagulls won the other meeting at Withdean, 2-1 in 2001, while the last meeting at the Goldstone saw Craig Maskell fire Brighton to a 1-0 win.
The previous two meetings at the original home of the Albion also ended 1-0 to the Seagulls back in 1992 and 1988.*
