Shamir Goodwin has signed a new contract with the club that will keep him on the south coast until 2015.David Burke
The forward is another Albion youngster who has flourished this year having secured a loan deal with Torquay United, scoring his first ever league goal last Saturday against Chesterfield.
Head of football operations David Burke believes Shamir is heading in the right direction saying, “This contract extension is a reward for his hard work both on and off the field which has paid dividends this year when he has been playing in the Conference and Football League.
“If he keeps progressing in this manner then he can push his way into the first team squad *and he is always improving.
“He has shown he can perform at under-21s level, in the Conference and now in League Two so he is on an upwards curve.”
Ireland has seen Goodwin mature this season
Under-21 coach Simon Ireland has kept close tabs on the striker’s progress since he joined the Gulls in January and says he has fully earned his new deal with Albion.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “Sham has matured a lot this season, on and off the field, and he is reaping the rewards.
“His ability was evident to us but now we are starting to see him believe more in himself and we are beginning to see the best of him.
“I have spoken to him personally since his loan move began and travelled back with him after the Northampton game a couple of weeks ago.*
"You can see he is really focused and determined and he is consistently striving to improve.
“He still has a lot to do but the new contract is another sign of things going in the right direction."
