I bored my mates with this on Monday and felt its dullness deserved a wider audience.

If we beat Wigan on Saturday, we have completed the double over the current FA Cup holders. Can anyone tell me ;

(1) When was the last time we did the double over the current FA Cup Holders?
(2) When was the last time we beat the current FA Cup holders away from home in the league?
(3) When was the last time we beat the current FA Cup holders at home in the league?

Please feel free to add more questions for insomniacs as well as answers. I can't think back to when we even last played the current holders.

Ignoring the league bit, we beat FA Cup (and Champions League) holders Chelsea at home 2012 pre-season

Most years, the winner has been from the top division, which limits how often we could face them in the league.

79/80 - FA Cup Holders Arsenal
Lost at home
Lost Away

80/81 - FA Cup Holders West Ham
West Ham were not in Division One

81/82 - FA Cup Holders Tottenham
Won away
Lost at Home

82/83 - FA Cup Holders Tottenham
Lost Away
Lost At Home

Years when the FA cup was won by someone outside the top division

76 - Southampton ... Didn't play them 76/77
73 - Sunderland ... Didn't play them 73/74
31 - West Brom... Didn't play them 31/32
12 - Barnsley ... can't find league results 12/13
1908 - Wolves ... can't find league results 08/09
1901 - Tottenham ... can't find league results 01/02

So could be a good first on Saturday. Incredible stat work by both of you, firstly for raising and then getting it answered. I love stats like this.

I still like the fact that Upson was the last English player to score a goal at the world cup finals. I almost want us to be goalshy in Brazil so that can continue!

We never have.

You're missing Wigan this season. That was technically the last time.

We weren't in the same league as any of those teams in those seasons - things were regional then,so we wouldn't have played Barnsley or Wolves
