Was something burning? I passed it heading southbound from Wimbledon. There was quite a strong smell of burning rubber or something similar.
M23 London bound closed, queueing traffic due to serious accident, a car involved between J11 A23 (Pease Pottage) and J10 A2011 / A264 (Crawley). The accident happened at around 11:45 this morning. Diversion: Traffic can divert through Crawley along the A23 Crawley Avenue, rejoining at J10.

Balcombe Road and join at the 10A would be an alternative.

No, it wouldn't. You have to join at 10.

The Argus details were wrong then. The Balcombe Road is still a good alternative though.

Southbound has just been reopened, Crawley and Pease pottage all a nightmare

When I did lots of driving and a motorway or major road closed. I made a point of never taking the nearest alternative way as everyone else would do that. I found it better to take a longer route.

That's what I was thinking it's not showing any incidents now so can only assume it's all cleared

I went to Felbridge about an hour ago, and the traffic was fine on the A264. Normally if there's any kind of incident on the M23, it backs up all the way from Copthorne to Felbridge, as traffic diverts to the A22 (never a good idea), so it must presumably have cleared.

Yep all clear on the way up but on my way back down after going up there's been another pile up northbound miles of traffic before junction 8
