The American Express Community Stadium will host Mark Sampson’s first home game in charge of the England Women’s team on Saturday 5th April, 1pm kick-off.Albion will stage the Three Lions’ fifth World Cup 2015 qualifier against Montenegro, a match that will be screened live on BBC One.
The Amex has hosted two previous England matches – the U19s’ 1-0 win over Denmark in November 2011 and the Under-21s’ 4-0 victory over Austria in March last year, but this will be the first and full competitive England match hosted at the stadium.
Brighton chief executive Paul Barber added: “As a club with our own thriving women's team and centre of excellence, we are keen to support and promote the women's game in every way we can.
“To be hosting a senior international World Cup qualifier is not only a great honour for the club, but is a great boost to the profile of the women's game in Brighton and Sussex.
“Having already hosted the under-19s and under-21s, when a combined number of almost 37,000 fans came to watch those two matches, we are very hopeful the people of Sussex and further afield will once again come out in force to join us at the Amex in support of England hopefully to cheer the team to a vital victory.”
England have made a fantastic start to their qualifying campaign, with former Interim head coach Brent Hills leading the side to victory in their opening four qualifiers last year.
The new head coach, Sampson, began his reign with a 1-1 draw against Norway in La Manga last month.
He said: “This is a game we are all so excited about, we have been since our first get-together.
“These are fresh times for our England Women’s team and I hope our supporters are sharing our sense of optimism about the journey we have ahead of us. Our journey starts in April against Montenegro and if we want our journey to be a fulfilling one we need to be together from day one.
“We are a new group with new ideas, we have a real freshness to our approach. Now we just can’t wait to play in a competitive environment and live out our vision on the pitch.
“The Amex is a wonderful stadium and I know it will be a fitting venue for our new England’s first match.
“The fact the game will be live on the BBC will no doubt help further boost the women’s game in this country and I think it’s absolutely awesome they are fully behind us.”
Before the Montenegro match, England will travel to Larnaca to compete in the annual Cyprus Cup, a competition they won last year. They take on Italy (on Wednesday 5 March), Finland (7 March) and Canada (10 March) in the group stage.
Tickets will go on sale this Friday starting off at £2.50 for children and OAPs, £3.00 for adults and £10 for a family ticket (two adults, two children). Packages will also be available for group bookings and charter standard clubs.
