Blimey, I'm shocked that he was that old. Didn't he score a hat trick or better against us in a game at Pompey when we were 1-0 up at half time and went on to lose 1-5?

Saw him in the famous replay at the Bridge when they beat us 4-0 after that Goldstone 1-1 draw in the cup.

I remember the famous photo of him jumping for a header in front of the north stand. Looked like he was 6 feet off the ground. A great old fashioned centre forward with a great spring and powerful header. RIP
 






I seem to remember he was won of those footballers who moved clubs a lot. He was always getting transferred, far more than other players did. Not because he was poor, he wasn't, he was a good player, just wanted by a lot of clubs.

And back in them there days, as long as you didn't ask for a transfer you got 15% of the transfer fee, so he must have made a fortune. Nothing like today's footballers money of course, but a lot of money for those days.

I also saw that '71 game when his career was running down and he was back playing for a very good Notts County team.
