Huddersfield Town have rejected a bid from Brighton for midfielder Adam Clayton, Sky Sports understands.
Brighton boss Oscar Garcia is desperate to bolster his midfield options after losing Andrew Crofts to injury for the rest of season and with doubts surrounding the long-term future of Sunderland target Liam Bridcutt.
Garcia had identified former Manchester City and Leeds midfielder Clayton as one of his top targets and was hoping to bring him to the Amex Stadium before the close of the transfer window.
However, Huddersfield have turned down Brighton's offer for Clayton and insist they have no intention of selling the 25-year-old.
