Fundraising tips & ideas for 'AITC' sponsorship

Im raising money for 'Albion in the Community' by running the Brighton marathon on their behalf, and need a few ideas to help with the sponsorship money.

For any of you who have done a bit of charity fundraising in the past what got you the best results in terms of earning the money?

Is there anyone in particular you think I should email, tweet, or send a facebook message too in order to drum up some interest?

Don't rely on people taking the trouble to visit your just giving site, do some leg work visiting friends/relatives/work collegues, local shops and businesses.
