[h=3]Transfer window watch: Striker bait thickens the plot in Sunderland's pursuit of Albion pair[/h]9:02am Tuesday 28th January 2014 in Albion By Andy Naylor
Connor Wickham
Sunderland will try to prise Liam Bridcutt and Will Buckley away from Albion - by using a striker as bait.
According to reports in the North-East England under 21 marksman Connor Wickham, recalled from a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday, is part of the Black Cats' plot to land Bridcutt and Buckley before the transfer window shuts on Friday night.
Albion are desperate for a striker after selling Ashley Barnes to tonight's opponents Burnley.
*The prolific Wickham, recalled from his loan at Sheffield 48 hours ahead of schedule, would be an attractive proposition for the Seagulls.
The respective valuations of the three players involved could, however, cause difficulties as Albion may only be able to borrow Wickham rather than buy him.
Sunderland's former Albion boss Gus Poyet reportedly has a back-up plan if he cannot clinch Bridcutt's signature - Argentinian Ever Banega from Valencia.
Neither Bridcutt or Buckley will be involved again for Albion at Burnley this evening, Bridcutt because his mind is still not focused and Buckley because he has not fully recovered from further hamstring trouble.
