3rd trip to Anfield. Expected to get tonked. Not so delirious this time but pleased we still scored more than them!!!



1984 away to Watford. Lost 3-1. Alas didn't get a ticket.

In 1984 - the year after our Cup final appearance - we lost 3-1 at Watford (after beating Liverpool in the 4th round).

One of the most famous ones was West Ham at home in 1933 (2-2, lost 1-0 in the replay). That was the season we failed to apply for exemption from the qualifying rounds - and played a total of 11 matches in the FA Cup, scoring 43 goals in the process, which must be some kind of record.

We've always seemed to get a difficult away tie in this round. I've counted 1960, 1983, 1984, 2011 and 2012 when we drew a top team and even Peterborough in 86 was awkward.

Statistically we should be due home tie.

Yes, the two 5th round matches I've been to (like many younger fans I imagine). Hope to improve my record this season, although if we get Man City away, I wouldn't bet on it.

I was there! So was Tom Finney.
Preston were 5th in Div 1 at the time
