While I was vaguely aware that we'd beaten Wisbech 10-1 some time in the 1960s, I didn't know until recently that we then thrashed Southend 9-1 in the same month.

So which lucky NSCers got to see these matches?

Hiney's magnificent Seagulls Programmes site has the programmes here:

Southend: http://www.flickr.com//photos/75238685@N02/sets/72157629406078235/show/

I found the Daily Mirror report of the Southend match, which you can see below:

Looking at the results for the 1965/66 season, we also beat Mansfield 6-4 a couple of months later at the Goldstone with goals from Tawse (2), J Smith, Livesey 2 and an own goal. Must have been good times. I wish I was there...

I remember all of these games, 10 years old and watching from the East Terrace.

Saw them both- amazing scores- then we lost to Bedford in the next round! I refereed a lot at Wisbech in the 1980s - used to enjoy reminding their officials about the score-they'd all gone to the game with high hopes!

Remember going to both games. We stood behind the south goal for the Wisbech game and just stood there gloating as Charlie Livesey just leaned against the upright and casually tapped the ball in without changing his position.

(Blimey, I'm getting on a bit now!)

Happy days. For a while between about '63 and '66 we thought scoring for fun was normal.........it didnt last :lolol:

The best of the games mentioned was the Mansfield match 6-4 - absolute humdinger!

I was there. Wisbech in the cup 10-1 and I think a 1-0 win away at Bournemouth before the 9-1 at home to Southend. Southend came without any registered keepers so ended up playing a young 16 year old in goal. Remember feeling so sorry for him but no goals scored from any of his mistakes. They were just awful.

Charlie Livesey was very much in amongst the goals: 3 against Wisbech, 2 against Southend and another 2 against Mansfield. What was he like as a player?

I was on the ground staff in 67 as a 16 year old working with Frankie Howard and Charlie Livesey was still there. He and a few others used to spend all free time between Mum and Dads café opposite and the Stadium pub along Old Shoreham Road. On one match day I had to be at the ground at midday as usual and at 1-30 Archie Macauley was spitting feathers as a few players still hadn't reported for duty. He shouted at Joe Wilson to drive to the pub to try and find them. Frankie then grabbed me and stuck me in his car and we sped along to the Stadium pub. I ran in and found said players. The scenario. As Joe Wilson came in the front door I was holding the gents loo window open and a certain Livesey, Collins and Cassidy were climbing out. Into Franks car and off to the match. I had to walk back. Nothing more said about it. Happy teenage years with great memories.

I saw them both then expected that many every week.

On a similar note, I'm pretty sure there was a week in the late 1980s when Gillingham won 8-1 one Saturday then smashed their next opponents 10-0.

Ah, having checked this, it was 8-1 v Southend on the Saturday and 10-0 v Chesterfield the following Saturday (both at the Pissfield), with a cheeky 1-1 draw at Wigan in between. So successive home games then. The record books say 155 fewer people turned up for the 10-0. Clearly assumed they'd peaked at 8-1.
