It does seem a bit.....odd that it needs to mention his colour? I'd say the same if it said for example, 33 year old ginger midfielder.

However, given that Chris Ramsey was only the second ever black player to play for Brighton, his skin colour was notable at the time. Nowadays, it wouldn't be worth a mention, just it wasn't worth mentioning that Albion's other full-back was white, so prevalent were white footballers in the Football League.
Especially when there is a picture of him!
