Tomasz Kuszczak is thriving as a Championship No.1 – according to one of the men who knows him best.
Albion’s’ goalkeeper goes up against his coach from his days at Manchester United today as he walks out at the iPro Stadium.
Former Seagulls goalkeeper and United coach Eric Steele now takes charge of the keepers at Derby.
And he is delighted to see Kuszczak enjoying life with the Seagulls.
Steele said: “Tom is a very good pro. He is hard working.
“He was there when we had Edwin van der Sar and he knew his chances were limited.
*“But, when he played, he was a very good goalkeeper for Manchester United.
“He was part of some very successful times.
“We won the League Cup against Villa. He had a fantastic first half when we were under the cosh.
“We got the winner in the second half and he got the medal.
“He played Champions League and Premier League games but he needed to be No.1 somewhere.
“That is what he has done and he has done very well.”
Steele helped both Albion and Derby climb from the old Division Three to Division One in his playing days.
He has vivid memories of his two-and-a-half years as Albion’s keeper and added: “You don’t forget some of the best days of your career.”
Read Eric Steele’s memories of the glory days at the Goldstone in The Argus today as part of our five-page match preview.
