It's funny - I read those and thought "Blimey, Sussex must have seen some rain last night".

Then I remembered I live in Sussex too.

Was there really that much rain? More than we've had in past weeks?

#A23 closed at #Bolney both ways bec floods. HA tell BBC Sussex: "engineers on site with gulley sucker. Doing all we can."

Apparently traffic northbound is already backing up to Hickstead.

I would imagine there's a cumulative effect going on as we probably need several dry weeks for the excess water to drain away.

Trains being held at Hove. Definitely a day to avoid going to London if possible.

A23 shut up handcross hill due to flooding

Can't remember that road flooding when all the trees were there!

Ah well, at least it will cut the journey to crawly by 5 minutes.

The trouble is the amount has now built up so much there is nowhere for it to drain and more is forecast.

This and the flooded rail line has messed up my weekend as I was going to Liverpool for work then on to Derby.

I have a lift back from Derby, just need a lift up tomorrow now! Any offers!?! Will chip in for petrol.

Radio Snooze had a reporter there. Apparently they are in the process of digging an 800m-1000m trench down the side of the southbound carriageway around Handcross to allow the floodwater to flow away. They are also sweeping debris from both carriageways.

No idea when its reopening.
