All this just highlights how ridiculous it is that there is such a difference between the one day squad and the test squad. We batted for less than 50 overs in most test innings. So why not pick the same players for both?

Morgan and Boppara in particular have strong claims.

Really? Morgan looked the real deal when he started his test career but his wierd stance and high backlift got found out. His dropping was more of a mercy killing than anything else. Bopara had plenty of chances and didn't ever take one. Both their test averages are extremely modest - Morgan 30.43 from 24 innings & Bopara 31.94 from 19 innings.

Also, this game isn't over yet. They've got Johnson to come who is a ferocious hitter who could win it on his own.

Or it could be that after nearly 2 months of thrashing England the Aussies are easing up a bit. The bowling attack is significantly weaker than the test one - no Harris (their best bowler IMO), no Siddle (their most reliable bowler) & no Lyon their best spinner.

Yeah I practically agree with you. But, the poor performances from most of our players must ask questions. And those players from our ODI side would be my first choice replacements.

I'm not saying it couldn't work but those 2 have had chances in the past against attacks inferior to the current Aussie test one

Having said that a few of that great Australian team had pretty modest starts to their test career. Justin Langer springs immedaitely to mind.

It's due to fielding restrictions, bowlers being limited to a maximum of 10 overs, Powerplays , and umpires being more restrictive on Wides( particularly Leg side Wides ) and bouncers per over. Plus a few newer players are not crushed mentally by the Aussies so put up a bit of a fight.

That covers it.
