Bournemouth hotshot Lewis Grabban is due for talks with Albion at lunchtime over a £1.1 million move.
The Seagulls are poised to complete the capture of Bournemouth's top scorer today, subject to Grabban agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.
The 26-year-old former Crystal Palace and Millwall striker will then go straight into contention for Saturday's trip to fellow Championship play-off contenders Derby County.
Albion made their move for Grabban last night, triggering a release clause in his contract.
The Argus website revealed on Monday the Seagulls' interest in Grabban and a clause in the contract he signed in November allowing him to speak to potential suitors if they*bid £1.1 million.
Completing a deal for Grabban will cool Albion's interest in Cardiff's Joe Mason.
The £600,000-rated Mason has also been high on Albion's wish list of replacements for Ashley Barnes, who joined Burnley last week.
Grabban's arrival will give head coach Oscar Garcia an assortment of attacking options, with Leo Ulloa fit-again after fracturing a foot bone and Craig Mackail-Smith creeping closer to ending a ten-month lay-off caused by a ruptured Achilles and then a broken ankle during his recovery.
Albion also recruited Jonathan Obika on loan from Tottenham last week.
Grabban would not be available for Albion's FA Cup fourth round trip to Port Vale on January 25.
He was brought off the bench for the last seven minutes of Tuesday's 4-1 victory over Burton Albion which secured a home tie for Bournemouth against Liverpool.
