My mum is always trying to look up her family history, she's got so far with it and hasn't really got the time!, have any of you hired a professional or know any professional genealogist?

My father has got back to the 1600s on his side. He didn't employ a professional. Many of their holidays over a period of a few years were spent traipsing round graveyards though and searching through church records.

Why would you want to trace it? Surely photocopying is much quicker and easier to do?
