1. Geographically Sunderland is virtually part of Liam's native Scotland. The wee fella will certainly be accepted more by his fellow countrymen when playing internationals now that he's joining a Scottish club.

2. Sunderland play in red and white stripes like Stoke, their name also begins with the letter 's' just like Stoke. Liam's tigerish tackling is well suited to Tony Pulis's Stoke style therefore I can see him being a huge hit at such a similar club.

5. If you rearrange some of the letters in Liam's name, and add a few others, it is actually an anagram of Mackem.

8. To show he can perform in a higher league, hopefully with a view to move to a Premier League club if Sunderland do get relegated.

10. His best friend at the club is Kazenga Lua Lua. Kaz is fond of Liam's sister, who will also be making the move to the North East, and has told Liam that he's looking for somewhere to stay and play spin the bottle when he visits relatives in Newcastle.

13. On 18 April 2008, the Sunderland Aquatic Centre was opened. Constructed at a cost of £20 million, it is the only Olympic sized 50 m pool between Leeds and Edinburgh and has six diving boards, which stand at 1 m, 3 m and 5m.... so there may be a future place on Splash! with Tom Daley in the offing.

14. Liam's stocky little body will cope well with the blustery conditions associated with Sunderland.

He's not a native of Scotland. He's a native of Reading, which admittedly is closer to Scotland, but only a bit.

15. Because it's the birthplace of elusive and little-known songstress Emelie Sandé. Moving there may increase his chances of seeing the reclusive chanteuse and of hearing some of her rarely played hits.
