Burnley have renewed their interest in Albion striker Ashley Barnes.
The Seagulls' Championship rivals have made an offer in the region of £750,000, The Argus can confirm.
But Albion are hopeful of keeping their squad in tact during the January transfer window to help them mount a promotion charge in the second half of the season.
Chairman Tony Bloom has already rejected bids from Gus Poyet's Sunderland of £2 million for Liam Bridcutt and around £1.75 million for Will Buckley, The Argus understands.
The bid for Bridcutt, according to Sunderland, is their final offer.
The Black Cats also launched their bid for Buckley before the winger suffered further hamstring damage in last Sunday's 1-0 win at Blackpool, which has ruled him out for a month.
Barnes, meanwhile, was the subject of three bids from Burnley in the August transfer window, the last for £500,000, when the player was unsettled about his Albion future.
He is out of contract at the end of the season and has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal offered to him in the summer but is in a better frame of mind now after featuring regularly in the team under Oscar Garcia and proving an effective goalscoring replacement for Leo Ulloa during the Argentinian's long injury absence.
Burnley need more firepower to cement their push for promotion, with free-scoring Danny Ings seemingly bound for the Premier League.
The only significant incoming transfer business Albion are hoping to conclude in January is the return of former loan winger Craig Conway from Cardiff.
