Festive Food - Winners and Losers

Lush

Mods' Pet
With the end of the festive food mountain looming, what were the winners and losers in your household?

Winners: Aldi Mince Pies - deep-filled, perfect pastry, slightly orange-y scent
Aldi Xmas Cake - deliciously moist, icing nice and stiff, good icing/cake ratio.

Losers: M&S Turkey - honestly tasted like flannel.
Thornton's Chocolates - ubiqitious, cheap, dull.

LOSERS: any supermarket mince pies. Sweet short pastry and tasteless gloop inside... always a MASSIVE disappointment. :nono:

Absolutely. Some of the best shop mince pies I've had - still not a patch on home made ones though.
The Aldi Christmas cake isn't too bad but not in the same category as the pies.

Mrs Gwylan swears by the Aldi fruit-glazed ham - she says it was superb ... as a veggie, I can't comment on this.

The range of cheeses from La Cave a Fromage was superb - cheese heaven

No real losers - most of the stuff we had was home-made and the rest was from places we trust

Loser was the wife insisting we had loads of fruit because she wanted a 'good display'. Doesn't look so good now, rotting away.

Winner a bizarre two dozen squashed fig effort the size of a cricket ball wrapped in raffia £4.50 from Infinity foods. Remarkable
Loser a 'finest ' Sicilian mouse at Tesco's reduced from 90p to 11p with a day to go and tasted of burnt plastic
