KEITH Andrews has urged Albion to ensure their Boxing Day knockout at Charlton is no more than a blip.
A 3-2 defeat at The Valley ended in-form Seagulls’ five-match unbeaten away run and gave struggling Charlton their first win in six games.
Midfielder Andrews, recalled for his first start in almost two months, said: “They were cheap goals. Hopefully it’s a blip and we can say we didn’t get the rub of the green, with clearances or balls just falling to them. The proof will be in the pudding in the next few games. We need to knuckle down.”
Andrews refused to blame the defence as Albion, again without captain Gordon Greer (calf), conceded three goals in the middle portion of the match after Leo Ulloa put them ahead on his return to the starting line-up.
Andrews said: “Adam (El-Abd) has come in and looked fantastic and the back four has been fairly steady in the last few weeks. It’s not just the back four, it’s the whole team defending.
“In the first half we felt fairly in control of the game. In the second half the pitch did deteriorate and forced us into going a little bit more direct but conditions were the same for both teams so that cannot be used as an excuse. We’ll be looking to put things right in the next game.”
Greer remains doubtful for Sunday’s trip to Blackpool, as is first choice right-back Bruno after he went off at half-time as a precaution with a tight adductor (thigh).
Kazenga LuaLua, ruled out yesterday by a ban, will be available.
