Steve Lomas was sacked as Millwall boss - after his brief stay ended in the luckless style of his reign.

Lomas saw his side reduced to ten men after less than ten minutes and go on to a heavy beating by Watford before learning his fate after the game.

The former West Ham star was never accepted by the Lions fans who turned on him following a home defeat by Middlesbrough last Friday night.

Lomas had managed to keep his cut-price squad uneaten in seven games at The New Den but that was not enough for the locals.

Now Lomas has been put out of his misery and former Millwall hero Neil Harris will be in charge on a caretaker basis.

Lomas brought Harris back to the club - partly to appease the fans - and his appointment will take some of the heat off the board.

The club released a statement this evening. CEO Andy Ambler said: "We are very disappointed that it hasn't worked out for Steve. He has been thoroughly professional in his approach to the job during his short period with the club and remains a very promising young manager.

"However, the board feels that it is in the best interests of Millwall that we make the change at this time and the search for a successor to Steve begins immediately. We thank Steve for his efforts and wish him the very best for the future."

Allardyce next. He has West Brom, Fulham and Cardiff in the next 3 games and he needs to win at least 2 of them.

Millwall would seem the ideal club for one of those managers who's all about passion & bluster, who fools rabid fans into getting onside by sucking up to them, hiding his inadequacies by ranting over referees, and wearing their team's scarf. And is cheap.

Oh hello, Ian Holloway, how was your Christmas?

Rather disrespectful to Kenny Jackett if you ask me.

Oh yes, because quite clearly that post referred to every single Millwall manager there's ever been throughout history.
