Nathan Jones admitted Albion let defensive standards slip at Charlton today.
But the Seagulls assistant head coach also recognised how tough his previous club made life for them in a real battle at The Valley.
Charlton came from a goal down to win 3-2 in the first Championship fixture of the day.
The win ensured they would remain out of the drop zone and ended any hopes Albion had of breaking into the top six today.
Jones, who was development coach at Charlton last season, said: “We are very frustrated. We felt we probably did enough to get something out of the game.
“It was a very competitive game, an entertaining game, there were chances.
“We weren’t quite as clinical as we would have liked to have been but also we weren’t as tight at the back as we have been for the last eight, nine, ten games.
“We are a little bit disappointed but credit to Charlton.
“They had a good game plan, worked extremely hard and they have got good players.”
