Albion shared four goals at The Valley on a landmark occasion for Charlton last season.
But younger fans might not be aware the sides have also played out a 2-2 draw in the second tier at the home of Crystal Palace.
Many of the Seagulls supporters heading to today’s game will recall last season’s fixture, which marked the 20th anniversary of Charlton’s move back to The Valley.
Gus Poyet’s men from behind twice with goals by Craig Mackail-Smith and Kazenga LuaLua after Lawrie Wilson and Bradley Pritchard put the hosts ahead.
But the Seagulls shared the same result in February 1986 when Charlton were embarking on a new, less treasured, chapter in their history – by playing ‘home’ matches as tenants at Selhurst Park.
Albion led twice as they sought points for their promotion push in the second tier under the management of Chris Cattlin.
Dean Saunders and Steve Penney made a goal for each other.
But indiscipline – or refereeing decisions - cost Albion the win.
They had full-back Graham Pearce sent-off for two bookable offences and twice conceded from free-kicks awarded against Eric Young.
Alan Curbishley took the first and set up Rob Lee to net.
Then Mark Aizlewood curled past Perry Digweed from 25 yards to earn a point.
Albion have taken seven points from their three visits to The Valley in recent seasons.
