We are calling on all Albion fans to support this great initiative and play their part"
Jo Robson
Albion fans heading to the Amex this Saturday are being urged to donate any unwanted winter clothing as part of a new campaign to help the homeless this Christmas.
The Share the Warmth campaign, which is supported by Albion in the Community and students from the charity's NCS (National Citizens Service) programme, is the brainchild of two local businesswomen from Hove.*
With the help of other local businesses, including the Big Beach Café in Hove, collection points are being set up across the city for the public to donate clothing. Donations will then be given to local homeless charities to distribute to the homeless over Christmas.*
A special collection point will be set up by Albion in the Community and the NCS students between 1 and 3pm on Saturday on the corner of the Bennett's Field car park for fans to drop off their unwanted clothes.*
Supporting a local social action project is a a key requirement for students on the NCS programme. Young people from the October NCS programme have chosen to support the Share the Warmth campaign by helping to raise awareness and volunteer at collection points.*
AITC's Jo Robson told seagulls.co.uk, *"We are calling on all Albion fans to support this great initiative and play their part in helping keep homeless people a bit warmer this Christmas and winter. We are involved in a number of projects that support homeless people so we are aware how big the issue is locally."
Jenny Barrett from Share the Warmth added, "It is great to see the Albion get behind such an important local campaign and we are grateful to the NCS students for choosing us as their social action project. Fans can bring any sort of winter clothing – hats, gloves, jumpers, coats – it just needs to be clean and wearable."
