Aitor Karanka is now in charge at Middlesbrough
Albion have been warned to expect improvement from Middlesbrough in today’s Championship version of El Clásico.
The clash at the Riverside Stadium pits the Seagulls’ head coach Oscar Garcia against Aitor Karanka.
They were rivals as players for Barcelona and Real Madrid but also Olympic and under-21 team-mates for Spain.
Karanka has got off to a sticky start at Boro with one win from four matches, the same record as Oscar had at the start of his reign with the Seagulls.
They beat Bolton 1-0 last time out at the Riverside (see accompanying video).

Oscar’s assistant Nathan Jones told The Argus: “They are a good side with good players. I’ve seen them enough last year and this year and they are decent.
“Obviously he (Karanka) has made tweaks to the squad in terms of how they play so it might take a little bit of time to implement those ideas.
“We are in good form. We had a blip against Barnsley but we bounced back in good fashion against Leicester and now the players are desperate for the game to come.”
The Albion squad flew to the North-East yesterday afternoon for one of their longest trips of the season.
Jones said: “The journey is made far better by the way club looks after us. In years gone by travelling to Middlesbrough we would have been seven or eight hours on the coach but that isn’t the case any more.”
