Albion’s under-21s fought back from 2-0 down to defeat Charlton in a friendly.
The Addicks took a two-goal advantage into the break after fielding a strong eleven made up primarily of first-team squad players, but wholesale changes at half time disrupted the hosts’ rhythm and the Seagulls capitalised.
Marvin Sordell and Richard Wood put the Londoners ahead but under-18 midfielder Ragnar Mar-Larusson came off the bench at the interval and pulled a goal back on 69 minutes.
Larusson’s cross-shot seven minutes later caused Harry Lennon to put through his own net to level matters and there was still time for Simon Ireland’s side to grab a late winner.
The midfielder won a late penalty after being chopped down in the box by Emil Peter Jorgenson, and Courtney Richards stepped up to secure the victory.
After the win Ireland applauded his side’s endeavour and spirit telling seagulls.co.uk, “It is a pleasing result because what we are trying to drill into the lads is that we keep going, even when we’re behind, and that is what they have done.
“We played some good football in the game and once again the attitude of the more senior players such as Lewis Dunk, Adam Chicksen, Solly March and Vitalijs Maksimenko was first class; I cannot fault them.
“There was a good mix of under-18s, under-21s and seniors players in the squad, and at this point there isn’t many under-18s that haven’t played under-21 football this season which is great for them.”
Albion: Wray; Triallist, Dunk, Maksimenko, Chicksen (Lall 70); Rea, Richards, Asmundsson; Dickenson (Larusson 46), March, Hunt.
Subs not used: Benham, Wiltshire, Colquhoun.
