Nathan Jones
Nathan Jones has hailed the quality of the Championship saying the competition has Premier League standards in parts.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “The Championship is a mini Premier League if you look at the sides in it now, such as QPR, Wigan, Reading, ourselves and Leeds.*
“There are grounds with 28 to 29 thousand fans in them each week and there are teams in La Liga that don’t get that. The Championship is a fantastic league and more players are coming into it, realising that it is a brilliant league to play in because of the quality.*
“The actual variety of players coming into the league has gone through the roof and it bodes really well."
The assistant head coach also praised Albion’s Adam El-Abd and Peter Brezovan after their impressive displays last week against Leicester, with both players being thrown into the deep end due to injuries to Gordon Greer and Tomasz Kuszczak.
“We know we have a good squad but it is a credit to the individuals. We put on sessions and Juan [Torrijo] looks after them in terms of fitness, and we demand from everyone in training so that nobody rests on their laurels and cruises through sessions.*
“But in term of Adam and Pete they are a credit to themselves. Adam came in and impacted fantastically well and if it was someone who wasn’t up to speed then it would have caused problems, but he came him and impacted straight away.*
“Peter came in and looked composed and comfortable, and that is something for the others to look at and make sure that when they get their opportunities they take them as well.”*
Meanwhile the Welshman reiterated that Oscar Garcia and himself are always focused on the next match, and only that, as they prepare for Middlesbrough away before entering the hectic Christmas schedule.*
“The focus we have now is concentrating on each game; I know it is a cliché but it is true. We are looking forward to it especially after the performance against Leicester.
“It is another game against difficult opposition because their league position doesn’t really justify where they are if I am honest. I saw them against Derby and they were probably the better side for 20-25 minutes but they had a man sent off and it changed the game."
