PETER Brezovan wants to save his Albion career – unless another Championship club tempts him away.
The Slovakian goalkeeper, fighting for a new deal, does not want to drop down a division despite his inactivity with the Seagulls.
Brezovan, pictured right, made his first appearance for 13 months in Saturday’s 3-1 win at home to deposed leaders Leicester after Tomasz Kuszczak pulled out in the warm-up with a stomach muscle strain.
Brezovan, Kuszczak and injured second choice Casper Ankergren are all out of contract next summer.
Brezovan, now in his fifth season at Albion, told The Argus: “It’s hard because Brighton is a beautiful place and I love the people around here. It’s not easy to go.
“If there was an offer from the same level I would probably try it. Going to a lower division, getting injured and then to be there on the bench is risky.”
Brezovan, 34 today, was catapulted from third choice a week ago to No.1 after Kuszczak’s understudy Ankergren suffered a wrist injury which will sideline him for weeks in training before last Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat by Barnsley at The Amex. Brezovan said: “That’s football. Things can happen quickly and it’s beautiful. It shows how everyone is important. When you don’t play for a long time, even in training, you start to think it’s hard to motivate yourself.
“That’s why you need good lads around you. I love the guys here. They always help you to be motivated. When you play and your contract is running out you need to find that motivation.”
Brezovan could remain in goal for Saturday’s trip to Middlesbrough, with Kuszczak facing a scan. Adam El-Abd is also likely to deputise again in the centre of defence for captain Gordon Greer, who was forced off early on by a calf injury.
Winger Will Buckley missed the Leicester victory with an ankle injury sustained on his comeback from hamstring trouble as a second half substitute against Barnsley.
