At Saturday’s match against Leicester City, Brighton & Hove Albion FC will call on its fans to support the charity Missing People at the Amex Stadium to help find vulnerable children and adults this Christmas.
Launching their new partnership with the charity Missing People, Brighton & Hove Albion is supporting the Home for Christmas Appeal *and the whole club has got behind the campaign at this important time of year. *
The team will make direct appeals on the day to help find missing young fans, including Abriye Mohamud, Elaine Taggart, Omar Mohammud, Melissa Attard and Matthew Green, all of whom have gone missing from the area or it is thought may have come to Brighton.
Jim Green, Matthew’s father, will be there on the day and is speaking to the crowd about how it is to have a son missing - especially over the Christmas period.
Jo Youle, Chief Executive for Missing people said,*“Having a member of your family missing, not knowing where they are, is a heartbreaking at any time of year - but it seems worse at Christmas when everyone else is celebrating with their families, but your son’s seat at the table is empty - his presents still wrapped and under the tree.... not knowing if he’ll ever get to open them.*
“We are touched by the incredible support offered by the club and its supporters. *Thank you so much to the Seagulls and to everyone who is helping us to search for missing people this Christmas.”
Jim Green said, “It’s very positive that we have another chance to highlight Matthew’s appeal and we urge anyone who might have information to come forward.
“It’s heartening to see so many people taking part and helping with the search and we’re grateful to everyone who has supported Missing People.”
According to a 2013 report 12,166 missing persons incidents were reported to Sussex Police in the previous financial year.
Albion chief executive Paul Barber added, “As a parent I can only imagine what some of the families are going through. As we enter the festive period, it is also a time of year when families should be together, and of course that makes it even harder for those families affected.*
"As a club we want to offer as much support as possible to the charity and families who have been affected at such an important time.*We really hope that with the help of our fans, we can help raise as much awareness of the cases of missing people in both Sussex and Leicestershire.*
"The players of both teams will be wearing special t-shirts, we will be running messages on the big screen throughout the game and also in the programme and tweeting our fan base over the course of the day to do that.*There will also be a collection at tomorrow’s match and we want to help raise vital funds for Missing People to support their year-round work, reuniting people with their families and loved ones.
"I would also like to thank Leicester City, their directors, staff, players and media team, who have also embraced the day and are also helping to raise awareness of missing people from the Leicester area."
