The Amex has passed another landmark – by staging its first Oscar award presentation.
Head coach Oscar Garcia picked up his first prize in English football when he was named Sky Bet Championship manager of the month for November.
And he immediately dedicated it to Albion’s fans.
Oscar pipped Brian McDermott of Leeds, Bolton’s Dougie Freedman and Nigel Pearson, who visits The Amex tomorrow with Leicester, to the prize.
The Seagulls boss said: “I would like to dedicate the award to the fans, who have been so supportive since my first day at Brighton and Hove Albion, fill the stadium for every match and support us away from home. “Even though it’s an individual prize, it’s a prize for the whole team and the whole staff.”
Chairman Tony Bloom congratulated Oscar, his staff and players’ and added: “To have won this so early on in his career with the Albion is a superb achievement, particularly considering the circumstances with all the injuries.”
Albion won three and drew one of their four games last month to complete a six-game unbeaten run.
Former Seagulls midfielder Alan Curbishley, who chairs the judging panel, said: “Oscar is now making an impact at Brighton following his appointment over the summer.”
Oscar does not need to worry about the manager of the month curse.
His team have already lost their first game of December against Barnsley.
But they have an immediate chance to get back on the red carpet by toppling Championship A-listers Leicester tomorrow.
