Albion can move into the top six ahead of the 3pm kick-offs tomorrow.
But realistically it would take a win by a margin of at least two goals in the lunchtime game at Bournemouth.
The ninth-placed Seagulls are now three points off the play-off zone after Reading won 3-2 at Nottingham Forest tonight.
Jordan Obita scored Reading’s winner against the run of play on 74 minutes after Forest, woeful for the first 30 minutes, had come back from 2-0 down to level.
Reading held on for the win despite the dismissal of former Forest defender Chris Gunter.
They move fourth in the table tonight while Forest drop to sixth.
Billy Davies’ men are three points clear of the Seagulls and have a goal difference of 26-20 compared to Albion’s 19-14.
Derby, looking to leapfrog their East Midlands rivals, are not in action until Sunday, when they look to hand Wigan a third home defeat in nine days.
Leeds will be in the top six tonight if they win at Blackburn.
