Ince

Barnes

Anyone else ?

If we cannot extend contracts by January should we be looking to sell, rather than lose at the end of the season for nothing .... ?

Ince was 18 month contract last February I believe. Would be a travesty if we don't get the contract sorted soon.

Can't understand the strategy in consistently letting key players to go into the final year of their contracts. Understand that we might want to offer over 30's a one year extension. But surely Orlandi, Lua Lua, Barnes and Ince - i.e. assetts with a re-sale value are able to enter the final year of their contracts giving them the opportunity to hold us to ransom over wage demands. It just does not seem to be good business sense in any way whatsoever, even if the new manager might not want them we wouldn't want to lose them on a free.

The problem will always be that we might be going up to the Premier and we do not want to be left with players on long contracts who will not make the 25 - e.g. Conway at Cardiff and Dobbie at Palace.

This points towards another thread, which is what should Brighton's transfer policy be in the future. Without wanting to sound too buoyant, there are two options in the immediate future, namely the Championship or the Premier League. With the latter hopelessly in mind, I think we should aim to buy quality rather than quantity (a la Palace), and start off with our capable though ageing defence, which will get exposed in the PL. Beyond that, Oscar could also get some (or, better, two) flair lightening quick winger with an eye for goal from Barcelona's youth academy (a la Deulofeu).

It's a good job we've started this thread.

The club would probably never have known about this contract issue otherwise

Come now! That same comment could be applied to just about any football or AMEX related thread on NSC - transport, pie quality, service times, 1901 vfm, etc etc and yet we post....

Erm I didn't start this thread for the clubs benefit

It's not you it was particularly aimed at. You were just asking the question.

Some of the replies suggest that it might not even have occurred to the club that this is the case. Which, with respect, I would suggest is ludicrous.
