Our mentality must be to pick up the three points, and to play good, attacking football"
Oscar Garcia
Oscar Garcia is looking for his side to continue their good pre-international break form, starting at Wigan tomorrow. The Seagulls are unbeaten in four games, including back-to-back victories over Doncaster and Blackburn, and Albion’s head coach doesn’t want the recent break to halt his side’s progress.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “We started slowly, which is normal as we wanted to change some things, but we are improving now and we are on a good run. We will try to keep the momentum going.
“The international break has its pros and cons; one of the pros is that we had some players coming back from injury and a con is that we were on a good run.
“Wigan is a massive game. They have a strong squad, they are playing in the Championship and Europa League and they have enough potential, not only with their players but their budget, to have a good chance of promotion.
“But we will go there to have a go, and our mentality must be to pick up the three points, and to play good, attacking football.”
Another plus from the break was that Craig Conway, Gordon Greer and Stephen Ward all performed well for their respective countries, with Greer making his Scotland debut against the United States.
“I am happy because Gordon won his first cap and I’m very happy for him because he deserves it. At his age it’s very emotional because you are thinking maybe you’ll never get the chance to play for your international team.
“I’m also happy for Stephen Ward and Craig Conway; they are all a little bit tired, but they will be okay and available for selection.”
Meanwhile with Albion’s injury headaches starting to improve, Oscar is looking forward to having a near enough full-strength squad available soon.
“Some of these players lack match fitness; they cannot play 90 minutes yet as they’ve come back from long injuries, but we want to help them get some minutes under their belts.
“A manager always wants to strength the squad, but now with all the players coming back we have more options.”
