Gus Poyet wants the final say on signings at Sunderland
Gus Poyet has warned he could walk away from Sunderland if he does not get the final say on incoming transfers.
The former Albion manager hopes to make an early start on his January rebuilding mission after holding positive talks over the club's transfer policy.
Less than three months after predecessor Paolo Di Canio, in conjunction with director of football Roberto De Fanti, completed a summer shopping mission which resulted in a staggering 14 signings, Poyet is ready to head into the market once again to address the deficiencies of the squad he inherited.
Poyet said that meetings have been productive but revealed in The Times he would expect the final say on players.
He said: “We talked about a position the other day and considered four players. I picked two. It was simple. One of the other two was a definite ‘no’. If that one is coming, I won’t be here.”
Poyet was sacked as Albion manager in June for gross misconduct following a detailed internal investigation by the club.
