Nathan Jones believes the latest international break has been a positive rather than a negative for the Albion squad. The break comes on the back of a four-game unbeaten run, including successive wins against Doncaster and Blackburn, but the assistant head coach has been happy that the squad has been able to regroup ahead of the forthcoming away games at Wigan and Bournemouth.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “People might say that the break has come at the wrong time, given our recent results, but what it has done is allow us to get some of the injured players back for the games ahead, and that can only be a good thing.
“We’ve also had a lot of players who have had to play a lot of minutes because of the injury situation, so they’ve also had a breather. It speaks volumes, though, for the character and ability we have that we’ve put this run together of late despite our injury problems. It’s been a challenging time, but we’re coming through that now. I can’t speak highly enough of the squad.”
Jones also reveals a buoyant camp as competition for places now starts to hot up, with just Craig Mackail-Smith and Will Hoskins the longer term absentees.
“There is a real buzz around the training ground at the moment. Players know when things have turned in the right direction and we have a bit of momentum now.
“We are in a good place and with a greater depth of squad for Oscar to choose from, I’m confident we can have a really positive second two-thirds of the season.”
