Good Shout on Different Drum. I like Mike Nesmith's version, but the Lemonheads' is different class. Same with The Pogues and Eric Bogle:

Doesn't spank it but takes it in a slightly different direction.
The Rip by Portishead covered by Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood.

Red House Painters - Silly Love Songs (all 11 minutes!)

Saw Kozelek from RHP in Hove recently. On fine form. Personally his cover version of the Dayglo Abortions' "I Killed Mommy" is my favourite. Takes a nasty punk metal song and somehow transforms into something beautiful despite the subject. Reminiscent of Therapy?s cover version of Husker Du's Diane.

Current favourite is Placebo's cover of Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill. And a bit of an odd one this, but Deacon Blue did a magnificent cover of Julian Cope's Trampolene.

The Who did it and so did this band. For a while they held the title "loudest band in the world", not bad for three piece.
