Has anyone been following this story?

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...to-plead-for-his-familys-freedom-8849810.html

FIFPro has urged FIFA to act, but FIFA says it can't intervene. A writer, Ben Jacobs, clears up the reasons that Zahir went through a civil court (spoilers: he didn't really have a choice)

Journalist James Masters has been in regular contact with Zahir and doing what he can to help but to no avail.

Unfortunately I can only see it ending in him killing himself - he's considered it a few times, is feeling utterly helpless and I spoke to his brother earlier on Twitter who said that he has a bad feeling about it.

The rights, or lack of, afforded to the workers building the stadiums who are penniless and unable to leave have been highlighted but it's only now that Zahir's story is gaining more attention.

Here, there and everywhere
And not just this. Qatar Air is renowned for treating its cabin crew really badly, spying on them and firing them on a whim. The more of this stuff that gets out, the better.

It will still not change FIFAs minds. Bent.

Marcus on The Football Ramble was talking quite passionately about how disgraceful it was for Beckenbauer to be flat out denying the existence of slave labour in Qatar in the lead up the World Cup.

If true, it is utterly disgraceful and Beckenbauer is scum for sweeping it under the carpet.

Talking passionately? He pretty much lost his rag. It was great

A few years back a British guy who had worked for Qatar Airways in Doha for a couple of years handed in his notice. He was prevented from leaving the country accused by Qatar Airways of transferring sensitive company information to his personal computer, which he stenuously denied. Initially he spent a couple of weeks in jail, then was under virtual "house arrest" until finally permitted to leave the country after six months.

Another friend of mine who worked for Qatar Airways in Doha was also initially prevented from leaving the country for a week after he resigned until the company was assured that the handover to his successor was complete. You had to get an exit permit issued by your employer to leave the country. No exit permit, no flight out.

The whole situation there is very very unpleasant.
