Yes, rather sad news. Sat behind him at a concert of his music once. He was an imposing figure in every sense of the word and yet a deeply humble, spiritual individual. He'll be much missed

He had a stroke when he was 30 and a massive heart attack in 2007 and still lived to nearly 70. No wonder he spent a lot of time writing morose dirges about god.

Had the privilege of meeting him once, as he was totally dominating the entirety of Salisbury Cathedral. Yes, he was quite imposing.

I think his music will be have a re-awakening now he has passed away. Aside from the religious connotations, it is very serious indeed and I think a lot of people who listen to bands like Sigur Ros, Arcade Fire, Mogwai, Godspeed You Black Emperor etc. might give him a new lease of life. Certainly hope so because he deserves it.
