Steve Harley at Concorde This Thursday

    Anyone else going ?

First saw Steve back in mid-70's when he was a very big star, but he disappeared quickly....then caught up with him in the last 80's/early 90's and saw some great shows. He'd certainly mellowed a bit after 10+ years in obscurity.

Always felt that he's been a bit overlooked. Maybe he made too many enemies in the media as a very abrasive, insecure young guy ?

What does NSC think about Mr. Harley ?

I liked Cockney Rebel and in "Come up and see me" he has one timeless pop song to his name.

I seem to recall the drummer (?) of Cockney Rebel died in the Lockerbie Pan Am disaster?

Not sure I can be arsed to go though.

My favourite, still sounds good to me

Saw him a couple of times in Worthing in the late 80's/early 90's and he put on a good show.

he's still very good, has mellowed and puts everything into the old Cockney Rebel classics - Mr Soft, Make Me Smile, Here Comes the Sun, Judy Teen, Mr Raffles, Sebastian, Tumbling Down, Best Years of our Lives and Love's a Prima Donna.

Well worth going if you can. SH usually mentions losing his bass guitarist (25 years ago ...blimey!!) in Pan Am's flight 103 over Lockerbie, his family links with Brighton and how he suffered from polio in his teens leaving him with a limp.
never forget what Stanley, Archer and Bellotti did

Yes, just like Ian Dury, he had polio as a child. I've often thought there are many other similarities between Harley and Dury : the exaggerated London/Cockney inflections, the clever wordplay, the volatility and aggression that so often surfaced, and the ability to come up with some uniquely quirky pop classics. Interesting artists.

Same here - always entertaining even if he had a habit of forgetting the words to his own songs.
