Ashley Barnes scored twice as Albion picked up their second win on the spin.
Jake Forster-Caskey also netted in a 3-0 home success over Blackburn Rovers which saw Liam Bridcutt make his return from injury.
The visitors had plenty of chances of their own.
But they found Tomasz Kuszczak in fine form in the home goal.
Barnes broke the deadlock with a calmly converted 35th-minute penalty after Craig Conway had been brought down by a clumsy challenge from recently-introduced substitute Dickson Etuhu.
Barnes had earlier blazed a great chance over just two minutes later after being sent clear by a poor back pass.
Albion’s lead survived to half-time thanks to a rare miss by Jordan Rhodes, who sent a free header inches wide just before the interval.
Kuszczak held two efforts by Josh King before the Seagulls doubled their lead in style on 56 minutes.
Barnes laid the ball back to Conway on the left and his cross was headed home by Forster-Caskey.
The visitors were convinced they were not beaten yet and Tommy Spurr headed against the bar after a corner.
Barnes, though, tapped in the third for the Seagulls on 78 minutes when Jake Kean failed to hold Andrew Crofts’ miscued shot.
Then Kuszczak topped off his fine display with his best save of the day as he fingertipped David Dunn’s curler past the post.
A great day for the Seagulls was completed by the sight of Bridcutt back in midfield for the first time in three months.
He went on as a 63rd minute substitute and received a rapturous welcome back from fans in a crowd of 27,912.
