As flawed as our current system is, exactly what do they want to replace it with? Direct democracy? Lets all vote on every single issue. Of course that requires everyone to be educated about those issued. Resourced based economy! Why not? Lets' get fracking. Oh, can't do that because to many people protesting about that.

I suppose it's easier to spin it as a conspiracy theory than face the fact that the average taxpayer would rather watch an amateur baking show.

Resource based economy has to be the way to go.

I honestly don't think it's possible to do it though, we're too locked into the current system. The only way out of this is to wipe out most of the population and start again. That is inevitable at some point, but it won't be in our lifetime. 100 years, 1000 years, 10,000 years, who knows :shrug:

Surely if they want lots of people there, they would have publicised more?

Surely the point is not that they do or do not have a point, or do or do not have a tangible proposal for how things should be done, or whether they're bandwagon-jumping idiots or revolutionary geniuses. The point is, it was a global, mass-scale protest, in multiple cities, featuring hundreds of thousands or even millions of people. What they're protesting about is almost irrelevant, it's newsworthy that it happened in the first place, which is why it's weird that it was barely mentioned. Not to mention ironic, considering part of what they're protesting about is the collusion between media and governments.

first off you knock capitalism as "the problem" sitting there using the fruits of that capitialism - the power, the computer, the network etc. secondly, if you took capitalism away, the world democracies would soon ask for it back as they they've done before. cf. China 1978 - date. we are the democracies and it is we that demand things that capitialism gives us. we dont want to just go to work, go home, have a pint at the weekend and thats our lot. we want all the things and spent lots of time on doing stuff, some want more or less of those than others, or willing to do more to attain them. when you resolve that, then we might be able to have equality.
